Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years old, her father landed a position as a curator of Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family was able to move into the historical landmark. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan started singing as a contralto with the kids' choir, and then just a few years later, in the adult choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I was doing solos in church . Someone wanted me to sign to the gospel label at age had turned eleven, however I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records when she was fifteen. She was the producer of an entire album. The album never saw release. Sullivan was later removed on the labels. They had a strong working relationship along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced several of her songs such as "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
